Kevlar Clutch Relines

DMR offers a Kevlar clutch re-lining service.  Often the re-lined clutches are from stock, however, less common clutch shoe types have a longer turnaround time.  Clutch shoes from stock can be returned to the purchaser within a few days, non stock items are generally returned within 2 weeks.

The re-lined shoes are available on a strictly, like for like, exchange basis.  The Kevlar shoe lining is 4.0mm deep as opposed to the 3.2mm OEM items.  Often the lining has to be filed down at the leading edge to be accommodated in the clutch drum but the additional material is there to extend service life.  The clutch shoes are available pre bedded in upon request however there is additional cost and due to the time the process takes delivery is delayed by up to 2 weeks.  Further details are available below.

Kevlar is much harder wearing than OEM clutches and consequently the bedding in process takes longer, however the extended life Kevlar offers is of benefit to the more budget minded.

Some clutch shoes are more suited than others to have additional weights in the form of grub screws screwed into the shoe.  Additionally and where appropriate the pivot holes are drilled and reamed to accommodate phosphor bronze bushes.  DMR re-lines come with these included where possible.

Pre bedded in cluthes.  For this the complete clutch is required. The shoes come back with all high spots removed and a glaze over the whole lining. Finishing off is still required when fitted to the bike as the process here doesn’t generate the same sort of heat as running on a bike would and the shoe is also mated to the clutch drum I have here. The recipients clutch drum would need to be in good condition to benefit from this service. Basically the running in process at the recipients end still applies but the process is much quicker.
